IPL – Photofacial Skin Rejuvenation
IPL technology uses a high-powered, computer controlled, broad spectrum pulse of light. Though not technically a laser, IPL is an intense form of light with varying wavelengths that are each attracted to the specific colors of brown, red and pink pigments found in damaged skin. The resulting light pulses can therefore accurately target specific structures in the skin, such as melanin in hair or hemoglobin in blood vessels.
IPL can be an excellent treatment for sun damage, skin pigmentation, dilated blood vessels, rosacea and excessive hair growth. It can be especially successful in treating early cases of sun damage and actinically damaged skin.
If IPL is recommended, anesthesia is not necessary and a series of in-office treatments will be performed once a month until the desired results are achieved.
During the initial consultation, Dr. Lorenc will determine if you will benefit from IPL, and he will examine your skin to make sure that there are no medical contraindications. While IPL is frequently used to treat sun freckles, it can potentially mask the diagnoses of basal cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma, so it is very important to be medically evaluated by an experienced physician before treatment is undertaken.
It is important to always follow your treatment with SPF.
